We now live in the digital age.
To future-proof your business, you need to totally embrace the changes happening around us. Like it or not, have time for it or not, you need to stay on top of it to remain relevant and competitive.
Wikipedia defines future proofing as, “the exclusive process of trying to anticipate future developments, so that action can be taken to minimize possible negative consequences, and to seize opportunities.”
Digital marketing then, is on of the processes that will lead to the development of your business to seize opportunities by using a variety of digital channels such as email, social networks, websites, quality content and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).
The business environment in which we operate is literally changing on a daily basis. There are updates to Google ranking, Facebook functionality etc every single day. There’s new technology, platforms, software, apps and trends being released all the time that affect the way we do business. Whether you have your head in the sand or you’re too busy, or you can’t afford it or you don’t understand it – change is marching on at a fast and furious pace!
So what are you doing to not only keep up, but stay in the game?
Brian Solis puts it this way, “We live in an era of what I refer to as Digital Darwinism, a time when technology and society are evolving faster than the ability of many organizations to adapt.”
Check out this great little video summary by Solis, that sums it up really well:
You now need a digital marketing strategy and plan that encompasses these channels in the right way.
Here’s a few things to think about:
- Do you have a strategy for innovation?
- How often do you review the relevance of your marketing?
- Is your website modern, up to date with an option to buy online?
- Is your website mobile optimised?
- Can your customers actually find you online?
- Do you have a strong social media profile?
- How is your relationship with your customers?
- When was the last time you got feedback from them?
- When did you last profile your customers to see who is buying from you?
- How is your relationship with your team?
- Do you have regular team meetings to discuss how the business is performing?
- What products or services aren’t selling well anymore?
- What products or services could you introduce?
- How do you get your information?
- What are your competitors doing?
- Are you proactive or reactive?
- What consultants do you work with?
- How do you feel about your business?
- How do you feel about the future?

Working with Julie at 360 Results was the best decision I could have made for my business. As a work at home mum, I really needed help with marketing and social media, and Julie has been an awesome help and support. She helped me to get to Page 1 of Google, set up and manage social media, connect with the right people and networks, give me ideas for growing the business and most importantly, increase sales! She manages all the areas I didn’t have time to do, so I could get on with running the business and spending time with my family.
